Commonly known as wearing a ‘tag’ or electronic tagging, this requirement means that the individual must remain at a specified place for a period of between two and 12 hours per day.

Usually, this means the person who has been tagged will have to be in their house during the evenings.

The electronic monitoring technology is managed by Electronic Monitoring Services (EMS). They supply the data to probation, and our staff use that information to manage the court order. For example, if evidence shows the individual has broken the terms of their tag, then probation processes the breach.

The length of a tagging requirement depends on what order the individual has been sentenced to, or alternatively what licence stipulations have been set by the prison.
