Volunteer Opportunities

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available across the HLNY CRC. Volunteering is a great way at gaining experience and an ideal introduction to a new career. Most voluntary organisations understand that volunteers have other commitments and will take this into account when allocating shifts/sessions. Obviously, voluntary work is unpaid, however most organisations offer free training programme and some may cover expenses.

The real reward for volunteering is making a difference to peoples lives and your local community.

Are you interested in keeping your community safe? Do you enjoy working with people? Are you willing to give someone a second chance? Do you have good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team? Are you committed, reliable and mature? If so, Yorkshire and Humberside Circles of Support and Accountability would love to hear from you….

“Circles” is a simple concept that can have an enormous impact in preventing future victims of sexual offences, keeping communities safe and supporting ex-offenders to resettle and lead an offence free, productive life.

A group of 4-6 volunteers meet on a weekly basis with a core member (ex-offender) for around 12 months. The core member is an individual who has been convicted of sexual offences previously but who has committed to living an offence free life and create no more victims. The ultimate aim of YHCOSA is just that…”no more victims”. We achieve this by supporting the core member to find productive and meaningful things to do with their time, and to cope with the demands of daily living as they resettle. However, at the same time, the volunteers hold their core member to account for any behaviour they are engaging with, or plans they are considering, which put members of the community at risk or the core member’s commitment to create no more victims in jeopardy.

We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life, as we need Circles to reflect the diversity of the community they represent. Volunteers do not need to have any previous training or qualifications in any particular area. We need people who bring with them a wealth of life experience, who are patient, non-judgmental and able to maintain firm boundaries. We are particularly interested in hearing from volunteers who are over 30 (with no upper age limit), male or from an ethnic minority background as these groups are under-represented in our current pool of volunteers.

Volunteers will complete a 2 day induction training course before entering a Circle and will receive on-going support, supervision and training. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check. We will reimburse out-of-pocket and travel expenses incurred through volunteering.

Hull Together Women Project (TWP)

Volunteers play an important role at TWP. Every year the volunteers at TWP give more than 2000 hours of their time towards helping women. Volunteers have an opportunity to use their skills and experiences to help women work towards positive change. Volunteering is also a rewarding experience and gives individuals the opportunity to build new skills and meet new people.

There are a variety of ways in which you can donate your time and skills to TWP. Volunteers offer practical support, advice and guidance to the TWP service and to the women we work with. TWP offers free training and support to volunteers and, based on your skills and experience, TWP can offer you direction in volunteering opportunities.
